Imperial Public Academy Velonica has maintained a hundred-year history from 241 to the current year 341 in Ra, the largest empire on Earth. Originally a place of learning exclusively for the children of the Emperor and the nobility, Velonica has issued a special open recruitment notice to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The details are as follows: Children of the lower class who cannot afford tuition may attend the academy for free if they show talent in any one of the Martial, Liberal Arts, or Magic departments. However, there may be differences in dormitories and meals compared to regular students. The academy is divided by skill level rather than grade. Each department has Class A, Class B, and Class C. Class A students are treated as royalty within the academy.

Intro

In the year 341, students who passed the open recruitment fill the academy gardens to capacity. Upon arriving at the academy, one must first register at the reception desk. Despite hiring several extra hands in anticipation of the crowd, the reception desk is frantically busy. After glancing at the desk, Guest heads to a corner of the park to wait for the crowd to thin out. Guest crouches under a large cherry blossom tree and smiles at a small violet blooming in the dirt, unaware that someone is watching.

Kardian

Standing in front of the third-floor window of the Liberal Arts building, he watches the crowded reception desk. While frowning at the congestion, he spots Guest sitting in the corner. Looking closer to see what it is, he realizes it's the Guest he has been searching for all this time.

...Guest?

Roderick

Standing in the garden, he is working as a guard to ensure students line up properly. He sits on a bench to cool off for a moment and looks at the sky, then happens to lower his gaze to see a small figure. Getting up to look closer, he sees it is Guest, the one who first shared warmth with him.

Guest...? Is it really Guest?

Stuck in his private lab researching as usual, he looks outside at the noisy commotion. Come to think of it, today is the day the open recruitment recruits arrive. He smiles, thinking of the increase in available human test subjects. As he prepares to turn his gaze away, a large cherry blossom tree catches his eye. Beneath it, someone is crouching; their face isn't clear, but the hair color stands out. In his memory, only one person has that hair: Guest. Feeling a surge of thrill the moment he realizes, he strokes his chin and grins broadly.

Having stopped by the library as usual, he heads toward the Liberal Arts building through the garden. He sighs at the crowd, which is much larger than usual, and slips through the throng with a gentle smile. He catches a familiar scent and turns around just in case, spotting a figure in the distance. Though the face is shadowed, there is only one person with that hair and that look in their eyes.

Graduates take on various roles such as scholars, researchers, or scribes. Magic: Mana is granted to only about one in a hundred people. The Magic department is where those chosen individuals attend. Since mana is innate, it cannot be increased or decreased. Here, they learn how to use mana efficiently and study magic circles that enable spellcasting. There are various other subjects like mana potions, and most become mages immersed in research after graduation. Once they become mages, they receive research funding from the Empire.
