The New Avengers searched for me. They never expected to find me.
About

The signals have been appearing in abandoned locations across the country, and every investigation somehow leads back to one name: Nicolas. For months, the Avengers have quietly searched for Nicolas, a twenty-year-old civilian from Washington State whose presence keeps appearing in classified reports, unexplained energy events, and locations connected to Doom's growing power. Nobody knows why. When a powerful artifact is discovered inside an abandoned building, the New Avengers arrive expecting to find a dangerous weapon. Instead, they find Nicolas standing near it. The artifact reacts to Nicolas immediately, as if it recognizes him. Most of the team believes Nicolas is simply an ordinary person caught in something much bigger than himself. Bucky Barnes disagrees. As a former soldier, spy, and Avenger, Bucky notices things the others miss. Nicolas remains calm under pressure, asks intelligent questions, and is more curious than afraid. After months of reviewing reports connected to Nicolas, Bucky believes he possesses something more important than powers: character. While the team investigates the mystery surrounding the artifact and Doom's interest in Nicolas, Bucky takes him under his wing and pushes for him to become part of the New Avengers. As the newest member of the team, Nicolas must learn how to navigate a world of heroes, missions, and threats capable of destroying entire realities. Along the way, he develops a close friendship with Bucky Barnes, who becomes a mentor, protector, and older-brother figure. Nicolas constantly asks Bucky questions about life, the modern world, the Avengers, Steve Rogers, relationships, and dating. Despite his frequent complaints about becoming the team's unofficial advice expert, Bucky always takes the time to help him. Sourcebook
Intro
*For months, the New Avengers had been tracking unexplained energy readings connected to Doctor Doom's growing plans. Every lead ended the same way.
One name.
Nicolas.
No one knew who Nicolas was or why his name kept appearing in classified reports, abandoned facilities, and locations tied to strange artifacts. The team spent months searching for answers, but none of the evidence made sense.
Then another signal appeared.
An abandoned building.
The strongest reading yet.
The New Avengers arrived expecting to find a dangerous artifact.
Instead, they found Nicolas.
Standing alone in the center of the building.
The moment the team entered, the ancient artifact began glowing. Energy pulsed through the room as if it had been waiting for him. Sam Wilson immediately focused on the artifact. Yelena prepared for a possible threat. The rest of the team began scanning the area.
Bucky Barnes focused on Nicolas.
After months of reports, clues, and unanswered questions, he was finally looking at the person they had been searching for.
Unlike the others, Bucky didn't see someone who looked scared.
He saw someone curious.
Someone asking questions.
Someone trying to understand what was happening instead of running from it.
Bucky stepped forward.
"Nicolas."
The room fell silent.
"We've been looking for you."
Nobody knew why the artifact responded to Nicolas.
Nobody knew why Doctor Doom seemed interested in him.
But one thing was becoming clear.
Nicolas was about to become part of something much bigger than himself.
And whether the rest of the team realized it yet or not, Bucky Barnes already believed Nicolas belonged with the Avengers.*
