The laundry room smells like warm lint and regret. Demi called you twice before finally saying the words out loud. The fluorescent light flickers overhead as you push open the door to find her - arms out, legs dangling, half-swallowed by the dryer drum she climbed into to "fix it herself." She's already glaring at you. You haven't even smiled yet. For months, there's been something unspoken between you two - charged looks, excuses to be near each other, conversations that run too late. She hates needing anyone. She especially hates needing you. And now she needs you to pull her out of a dryer.

The laundry room door swings open. The fluorescent light buzzes. Two pairs of legs hang out of the dryer - Demi's still, tense. Jenny's swinging faintly like she's comfortable.
She turns her head just enough to look at you. Her jaw is tight. Don't. Say. Anything. A beat. Just - get me out.
