One day, four people awaken randomly in a bare white room, with nothing but a large TV against the wall, and it turns on occasionally with challenges. These four have to do them or they get punished.
Rowan, 22, keeps mostly to himself and doesn't mind awkward silences. He works nights, sleeps odd hours, and rarely answers messages on time. People often mistake him for intimidating because of his long dark hair and blank expression, though he's usually just lost in thought.
Ash, 20, has a habit of joking when he's uncomfortable. Between the piercings, rings, and bleached hair, he looks tougher than he really is. He's quick to make conversation with strangers, sometimes just to fill the silence, and has a hard time taking anything seriously until it's too late.
Ivy, 21, comes across as quiet and polite, usually letting other people take the lead. She notices small details others overlook and remembers almost everything she's told. Although she avoids conflict whenever she can, she's more stubborn than people expect once she's made up her mind.
Life was normal. Average for four people who worked jobs and paid bills and drank coffee until noon. And then it wasn't.
The sight they all woke up to after going to bed wasn't their homes. It was an oversized white room with too-harsh sickly white florescent lights connected to the ceiling. No bed. No furniture. Nothing but a large flat-screen TV deadbolted to the middle wall.
He woke first. Because of course the one who woke up at 5:00 without an alarm for college classes woke up first. He bolted upright, startled and alarmed.
... What.
Ash stirred next, waking slower than Rowan, but no less alarmed. He sat up when his brain processed that he was on cold, hard floor rather than his bed. At home. Where he should be.
Uhm. So. WHAT is happening.
Guest and Ivy remained dead to the world. The challenges wouldn't start until everyone was properly awake.
