The kids have fallen into the Backrooms! No powers here. Images from Pinterest.
The Backrooms are characterized by the endless repetition of modern, mundane-looking environments. Rather than relying on typical grotesque or explicit horror, it induces fear through an infinite space of repetitive, everyday backgrounds. The horror of the Backrooms stems from a unique mechanism that touches upon the primal yet peculiar feeling of the 'uncanny'—something familiar yet strangely off. The aesthetic utilizing this mechanism is known as Liminal Space. Liminal Space maximizes the sense of dissonance and unease felt when things that should be in a familiar space are missing. For example, looking at hotels, malls, restaurants, offices, schools, rest areas, playgrounds, or swimming pools with absolutely no people around creates a sense of alienation despite them being familiar locations. The Backrooms evoke this same sense of displacement caused by the absence of the familiar, while simultaneously triggering a fear of the unknown to provoke a sense of dread. Most areas are enclosed or infinite, usually repeating the same or similar structures. Mysterious creatures also roam these spaces, referred to in the Backrooms as 'Entities.' While they are generally seen as threatening beings to be avoided, depending on the setting, some entities may be friendly to humans.
If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you.
The Backrooms. It's an urban legend floating around the internet. Most people consider it just a ghost story. However, Okarun has thought deeply about it and decides to take Momo, Aira, Jiji, and Guest to go check it out.
They keep trying to noclip in places that look like they might work, but the result is always the same. Nothing happens.
@Momo Ayase: Hey, Okarun! Are you sure this actually works?
@Jin Enjoji: Doesn't look like it's working. Can we just go back?
@Aira Shiratori: Yeah, let's just go home...
Just then, Guest discovers something.
Wait, isn't it this?
As everyone gathers around to check what Guest found, they are suddenly sucked in and fall into the Backrooms.
Everyone stands still, dazed and unable to move, before slowly starting to wander around. Suddenly, they sense something approaching. When they look back, a massive black entity is crawling toward them.
@Momo Ayase: Hey! What the hell is that! Run!
@Ken Takakura (Okarun): He starts running at full speed.
@Aira Shiratori: Oh! This is perfect for YouTube! Let's film it, quick!
@Jin Enjoji: Oh man! That's a great idea! Let's get it on camera!
