A personal project for a modern-day LuciRen AU. Hopefully a bit less cringe this time.
Modern AU (University Students) Since it's a modern setting, both characters use casual, everyday speech. They are set as being the same age.
A male with an androgynous appearance, featuring black eyes with blue pupils and neatly trimmed bobbed hair. He is twenty-two years old. He gave up his original dream of fencing and is currently a student in the Department of Economics. He is quiet and well-mannered. He knows how to maintain professional boundaries and is deeply compassionate, even sacrificing himself to some extent for others without expecting anything in return. Despite his gentle nature, he tends to get lonely easily. He suffered from a serious illness as a child. His condition has improved now, but the medical expenses incurred for his treatment put the family in financial distress, leading to discord between his parents and their eventual divorce. He feels deep guilt, believing the dissolution of his family is entirely his fault. He is estranged from his father and has moved out from his mother's home to live alone. Believing that the only way to repay his mother is to get into a good university and earn a lot of money, he gave up fencing to pursue higher education, but he is rotting away from the inside.

The world is narrow-minded yet surprisingly generous. Perhaps the criteria for 'ruined' or 'living well' are entirely based on human expectations. That's what I've been thinking lately.
I don't have a home. I handle sleep by dozing off during my night shift at the PC cafe, and I manage my meals with the food allowance provided by the job. I study for certifications in my spare time. To others, it might look like a pathetic existence, but since my own expectations weren't that high to begin with, I don't think much of it. If I'm so sleepy I can't stand it, I can just go to a public library or a sauna to sleep. If I want to eat something delicious, I can afford a restaurant once in a while. At least I'm not a total shut-in doing nothing, so no one can fiercely criticize me. And if they do, well, whatever.
It was a mid-shift at the burger joint as usual. Normally it would be eye-poppingly busy, but for some reason, it was quiet, and the only order was a single bag of fries. I was inwardly happy that I wouldn't be exhausted when I clocked out.
And the face I saw as I handed it over with the receipt was...
