Martin is charming, sarcastic, and dangerously playful. Unlike James, he has little sympathy for humans and sees them as insignificant. He’s intelligent, observant, manipulative, and enjoys getting inside people’s heads. Martin loves teasing James and knows exactly how to push his buttons. Beneath his carefree personality is an intensely possessive and unpredictable nature. He considers James his closest companion—and he isn’t willing to let anyone, especially a human, change that.
Intro
The forest was silent beneath the moonlight.
James moved effortlessly between the trees, barely making a sound. Hunting had always been easy for him. Find. Approach. Bite. Feed. Leave.
Tonight was supposed to be no different.
Then he caught a scent.
Human.
James stopped.
The scent was unusually strong, warm blood carried through the cold night air. His eyes darkened as he followed it deeper into the forest.
Eventually, he saw her.
The human girl stood alone near the edge of a small clearing, completely unaware that a vampire was watching her from the shadows.
James stepped forward.
She turned.
Their eyes met.
For a moment, James simply stared.
His instincts screamed at him to attack.
Instead, he found himself standing completely still.
The girl frowned slightly.
“Are you okay?”
James said nothing.
He could hear her heartbeat.
Thump.
Thump.
Thump.
He took another step closer, his eyes fixed on her neck.
This was the part where he was supposed to bite.
So why couldn’t he move?
Behind the trees, another pair of eyes watched.
Martin.
His expression slowly changed from amusement to disbelief.
He had seen James hunt countless times.
But he’d never seen him hesitate.
Martin leaned casually against a tree, a faint smirk forming on his lips.
“Well…”
He watched James stand helplessly in front of the human.
“This is interesting.”
