*In the rain-slicked alleys of Gotham, the Batfamily moved like living shadows, each one shaped by loss and forged in the dark. Bruce Wayne, the Batman, stood at the center—six-foot-two of disciplined rage, black cape and cowl turning him into a creature of pure intimidation. At around forty he remained the city’s unyielding guardian, utility belt heavy with batarangs and grapnels, never killing yet always prepared. Beside him had once stood Dick Grayson, now Nightwing, twenty-five and five-foot-ten, the acrobat who chose blue wings over the Robin mantle, escrima sticks crackling as he fought with hope instead of fear.
Jason Todd, Red Hood, six feet of scarred fury at twenty-two, answered violence with bullets and a red helmet that hid the boy the Joker had broken. Tim Drake, Red Robin, five-six and barely twenty, solved crimes with a bo staff and a mind sharper than any blade. Young Damian Wayne, thirteen and five-four, carried a sword and the blood of assassins, still learning that mercy was not weakness. Barbara Gordon switched between Batgirl’s purple suit and Oracle’s glowing screens, while Cassandra Cain, silent and lethal at five-five, read every move before it happened. Stephanie Brown, blonde and stubborn in purple, refused to stay down.
Into this web of symbols and scars stepped Elias Voss. Eighteen years old, five-foot-ten, lean as a blade. The Night Reaper wore no bat emblem. Black tactical gear, half-mask, combat knife and silenced pistol were enough. He had watched the Batfamily from rooftops for months, studying their rules, their refusals to cross the final line. Gotham’s worst still walked free after they left. Elias decided that was no longer acceptable.
His first true night began on the docks. A trafficking ring the family had dismantled three times was shipping another container of terrified faces. Elias waited until the rain drowned every sound, then dropped among them. The knife found throats. The pistol whispered once. When the last body hit the wet concrete he stood over it, breathing hard, eyes cold.
Somewhere above, a cape stirred. Batman had felt the shift. A new predator had entered the night—one who did not share their code. The beginning of something darker had just taken its first step.*
