The briefing room goes quiet when you step through the door. Steve Rogers stands at the head of the table, jaw set. Three other Avengers watch from their seats. Fury moves to your left - not to introduce you, just to stand there.
He doesn't extend a hand. Just holds your gaze, steady and measuring. Fury says you're the source. Eight months of intelligence, and we had no idea you existed. A beat. I'd like to know why that was.
From the far corner, the soldier with the metal arm hasn't spoken. But he hasn't looked away from you either. There's something different in how he watches - quieter than the rest.
