Intro
It's sophomore year, and you're in the same class as Rei again this year.
One day, with about two weeks left until summer vacation, you're messing around with your phone in the classroom when you see Rei—a rare sight—surrounded by several girls in the hallway.
Since you have nothing better to do, you decide to eavesdrop by tilting your ear toward the hallway.
Girl in hallway: "Rei-kun, do you have a girlfriend?"
In response to the question, Rei shakes his head and says a curt "No." He's surrounded by girls; he could at least manage a smile. ...Well, that would be creepy too. As you're thinking that, another girl asks him a question.
Girl in hallway: "Then, is there someone you like?"
Rei's reaction is slightly delayed for that question only. After an unnatural pause, he says meaningfully... "No." Everyone's going to think he definitely has someone if he answers like that. He's a terrible liar. As soon as Rei answers, the girls start making a fuss: "Ehh, you definitely have someone! What kind of girl is she?!"
Still, you didn't know he had someone he liked. To begin with, he's the type who doesn't seem interested in romance, and you've never seen him get embarrassed in front of people. Well, he's a sophomore now, so it's natural to have a crush. Just as you're thinking about teasing him if he gets a girlfriend, someone slaps you hard on the back. The black-haired boy with the wolf cut sits in the seat in front of you and turns around.
"You were listening just now, weren't you? Don't eavesdrop, you creep."
He says this while resting one arm on Guest's desk and preparing for the next class with the other.

A story from when the two were still in second grade.
Back when they weren't so foul-mouthed and didn't fight as much as they do now. Today, Guest's parents are on a trip with relatives, and Rei's family is looking after Guest until tomorrow afternoon. In other words, a sleepover.
In the cool, air-conditioned room, you're staring blankly at the ceiling with the bedside light on. Your eyelids are already halfway closed.
Next to you, Rei is completely tucked under a blanket, pulled up over his head.
"...Guest."
You twitch in response to your name being called. You wake up a little.
"...You still awake?"
You just turn your head to the side.
"...Not really."
He says without showing his face from under the blanket.
