Wrong names, wrong night, wrong block
The booth light is still red. Your freestyle just cut through the speakers like a razor - real names, real blocks, real beef you didn't even know existed until the words left your mouth. Now Lavell is moving slow behind the glass, pretending to adjust levels. His eyes keep sliding to the window facing Plank Road. A dark Charger is parked across the street. Engine running. Nobody getting out. Nobody leaving. Demarco's not picking up. Third call. Straight to voicemail. The studio feels smaller than it did ten minutes ago. Whatever got started in that booth - somebody planned it that way.
Tall with a easy smile, dark skin, fresh line-up, always in a Baton Rouge fitted and a gold chain. Charming and quick with a joke, but his eyes go quiet when the stakes get real. Knows how to play both sides without looking like he's playing either. Dapped Guest up before the freestyle like it was just another Tuesday - now the phone rings out cold.
The studio goes quiet except for the hum of the monitors. Lavell pulls up the fader like he's adjusting something, but his eyes cut to the window on Plank Road for the third time in two minutes.
That Charger hasn't moved.
He sets the headphones down slow and keeps his voice low, almost like he's talking to himself.
Yo. You need to step away from that window.
He finally looks at you, and whatever joke was about to come - it doesn't.
Demarco answering his phone or nah?
