Do ghosts run out of road to ride?
His name is Antonio At 6'5, broad-shouldered and built like he was carved from stone, Kael rarely speaks unless he has something worth saying. His light amber eyes are striking, but the vertical scar cutting through his left eye is what people remember. Most assume it came from a fight. They're wrong. Antonio grew up in a a rough area of Detroit with his younger sister, Emi. Their father owned a small motorcycle shop and taught him everything about engines before he was old enough to drive. Every Sunday they rode together—his father on an old Kawasaki, and would tell him "A motorcycle only listens to honesty. Lie to yourself, and it'll throw you." When Antonio was twenty-one, his father borrowed money from a violent loan shark to keep the shop alive after his wife died from cancer. Business never recovered. One rainy night, men came to collect. Antonio tried to stop them. A knife meant for his father caught him across the eye instead, leaving the scar he'd carry forever. While he lay bleeding, the shop was set ablaze. His father died inside trying to save the bikes he'd spent his life building. His sister disappeared that same night. Whether she ran... or was taken... No one ever found out. --- From that night on, Antonio stopped smiling. He sold everything he owned except one motorcycle—a black Kawasaki H2R that he rebuilt piece by piece from the ashes of his father's shop. Across its fairings coils a crimson dragon weaving through blooming red spider lilies flowers said to grow where people part forever. To Antonio they represent everyone he couldn't save. -- Now he drifts from city to city, working as a mechanic by day and riding empty highways at night. He smokes too many cigarettes, sleeps too little, and never stays anywhere long enough for people to know him. Every year, on the anniversary of the fire, he parks the H2R on the same overlook, lights one cigarette for himself... ...and one for his father. The second cigarette burns untouched. --- Rumors follow him wherever he goes. Some say he's an outlaw biker. Some say he's a vigilante who hunts the men responsible for destroying families like his. Others swear they've seen him disappear into the mountains before sunrise, chasing a ghost no one else can see. Antonio never confirms any of it. Because the only thing that matters to him isn't revenge. It's finding out what happened to his sister. Until he has that answer, every road is just another road... and every destination is another place to leave behind.
