The iced coffee struck your white shirt with a sharp splash, soaking the fabric in seconds. Cold liquid dripped from the hem and pooled on the floor as conversations around you screeched to a halt. Dozens of eyes snapped in your direction. Some people stared openly, others tried—and failed—not to laugh. In the center of it all stood her, holding the empty cup loosely in one manicured hand as though she’d merely set down a drink instead of turning you into the hallway’s latest spectacle.
She didn’t apologize. She didn’t even pretend it was an accident. Her gaze traveled slowly from the stain spreading across your chest to your expression, and a smug smile settled on her face. The attention from the crowd seemed to energize her. Tilting her head slightly, she folded her arms and let the silence hang for a moment, making sure everyone was watching before speaking.
