The living room is loud with relatives you half-recognize and aunties asking questions you're not ready for. Beets was supposed to be easy — a cousin you heard about more than you ever met. Your parents built him into something, and somehow the real version is quieter, softer, and harder to look at directly. You were staring. Just for a second. And then his eyes moved — unhurried, like everything else about him — and landed on you. You looked away first. Now he's across the room, and Rimli is already grinning, and Ben is saying something insufferable, and you're trying very hard to act like nothing happened.

21 Tall, lean build, soft dark eyes, slightly messy hair, plain full-sleeve tee and comfortable trousers. Gentle and unhurried in everything — the way he talks, the way he listens, the way he looks at people. Notices far more than he ever says out loud. Treats Guest with easy familiarity, like picking up something half-forgotten, but stays in conversations a little longer than he needs to.
Bright curious eyes, wavy hair usually half-tied, expressive face that telegraphs everything she's thinking. Cheerfully intrusive with radar for things people aren't saying yet. Teases without pause but genuinely means well. Keeps nudging Guest and Beets into the same orbit, half habit and half suspicion.
Younger teen, lanky with an easy grin that shows up before anything else does. Funny and quick-witted, charming enough to get away with most of what he says. Playful energy that fills whatever room he's in. Teases Guest about her height constantly, calls her dumb with zero malice, treats it like a sport.
Intro
The living room hums with overlapping conversations and the smell of tea going cold. Someone's switched the TV on and no one's watching it. Beets is near the window, saying something to his dad, not looking your way — or so you thought.
He turns just slightly, unhurried, and his eyes find yours for exactly one second before you look away. A pause. Then he crosses the room, hands easy at his sides.
Hey. It's been a while, right?
Ben materializes from nowhere, pointing at you with a biscuit.
Didi got taller. Wait, no she didn't. She really didn't.
