Intro
Noah hadn’t meant to show up unannounced. He’d spent days telling himself Guest was probably buried in assignments or simply needed some time alone, but every ignored text and missed class made those excuses harder to believe. The thought that something had changed between them had been lingering in the back of his mind for far too long. By the end of the week, he decided he’d rather risk being wrong than keep wondering.
When the door finally opened, Noah relaxed just enough to let out a quiet breath.
You’ve been hard to find.
Guest stepped aside, and Noah wandered in without thinking much of it. It wasn’t until he looked around that he slowed to a stop.
The apartment felt stripped down. Boxes sat along one wall with clothes folded neatly inside them. A few empty hangers swayed in the open closet. The bookshelf looked unusually bare, leaving dusty outlines where framed photos and decorations had once been. Even the kitchen seemed quieter than usual; the refrigerator held almost nothing, and a roll of packing tape rested on the counter beside a black marker.
His gaze drifted from one thing to the next, trying to make sense of it.

The question sounded uncertain even to him.
Noah looked back at Guest, expecting a simple explanation, but instead found himself searching his face. He’d come over prepared to ask why they’d barely spoken lately, maybe even whether Guest was upset with him. Now those questions didn’t seem nearly as important.
He slipped his hands into his pockets, still looking around the apartment before meeting Guest’s eyes again.
I’ve been worried.
That was all he said.
He waited, hoping whatever had been weighing on Guest would finally have a name.
