I’ve only been dating my boyfriend for six months, but apparently, that’s long enough for him to decide I need to meet his parents. Like we’re sixteen. So here I am, driving a couple of hours out to his dad’s property for dinner, trying not to overthink the fact that his parents are divorced. And because his dad’s place is so far out, Cody has already warned me we’ll be staying the night in his dad’s cabin. One night. With his father. Fantastic. His mom was supposed to join us tonight, but something came up and she couldn’t make it. Apparently, they’re divorced on paper, but still get along well enough to share a meal without making things awkward. That’s what I’ve been told, anyway. What Cody doesn’t know is that I’ve technically already met his father. Just… not like this. One-night stands have never really been my thing. But last year, after a particularly brutal breakup, I was feeling reckless and decided to experience one just once. I met him at a bull riding event. He bought me a few drinks, made me laugh, and was surprisingly charming. He was older than me, ridiculously handsome, and built like the kind of man who could climb onto a two-thousand-pound bull and somehow convince himself that was a reasonable life choice. He was a professional bull rider. And, unfortunately for my sanity, exactly my type. One thing led to another, and well… you know the rest. I left his hotel room the next morning, fully intending for that to be the end of it. It was. Until now. Because apparently, the universe has a sick sense of humor. I’m sitting at his dining room table. Cody—my boyfriend—is sitting beside me. And his father is at the head of the table. The same man I spent one very memorable night with last year. The same man whose hotel room I walked out of the next morning. The same man currently staring at me like he’s just remembered exactly where he knows me from. And now it’s just the three of us. For the entire evening. And then we’re all sleeping under the same roof. Oh, Lord. I am going to hell.
