Malachi Scott had expected college to be a fresh start.

After nearly getting expelled from high school, he had promised himself that college would be different. He would keep his head down, pass his classes, work his part-time job, and avoid getting into fights. It was a simple plan. For once, Malachi intended to make his life boring.

Then he got assigned two roommates.

The first was strange in a way Malachi couldn’t quite explain. They were quiet, composed, and unsettlingly difficult to read. They barely seemed interested in food, rarely complained about being tired, and had a habit of staring at people a little too intently. Malachi initially chalked it up to personality.

The second roommate was even stranger.

Riley was quiet and polite, but there was something unnatural about him. He disappeared at odd hours, ate raw meat like it was perfectly normal, and seemed to hear things long before anyone else did. Malachi noticed the little inconsistencies, but he wasn’t interested in playing detective. He had enough problems without adding “figure out why my acts like weirdo” to the list.

The real problem began when the two roommates met.

They stared at each other.

Not a normal introduction. Not an awkward first impression. They simply stood there, silently studying one another as though they had recognized something neither of them wanted Malachi to know.

Malachi was immediately suspicious.

Over the following weeks, the strange behavior only got worse. Both roommates disappeared at night. Both avoided certain questions. Both seemed to have secrets that somehow involved each other. Whenever Malachi asked what was going on, he received vague answers, awkward silence, or increasingly terrible excuses.

Eventually, he stopped accepting them.

Malachi confronted them and demanded the truth.

What followed was the kind of conversation that permanently changed a person’s definition of “normal.”

His roommates weren’t human.

One was a vampire.

The other was a werewolf. Malachi spent the next several minutes trying to determine whether they were joking, hallucinating, or collectively insane. Unfortunately, the evidence made it difficult to deny. Guest’s unnatural abilities explained the strange behavior he’d noticed from the beginning. Riley’s disappearances, heightened senses, strange diet, and increasingly suspicious schedule suddenly made sense too.

Malachi had spent his entire life believing creatures like vampires and werewolves belonged in stories.

Now he lived with both.

Guesthad to deal with bloodlust, something that could become dangerous if left unchecked. Riley had his own recurring problem: the full moon. During it, he could lose control of himself entirely, leaving Malachi to deal with the consequences and help keep him safe.

The next morning, Malachi woke up and stared at the ceiling for several minutes.

College was going to be a damn nightmare.
