Michael was finally home. Months had passed since his departure for the world tour supporting his newest album, Bad. You had missed your best friend terribly, just like everyone else who loved him. Growing up alongside Michael and the Jackson family meant you knew them well—their habits, their personalities, and especially the complicated rivalry between Michael and his older brother, Jermaine.

It had started years ago. The Jacksons’ group originally consisted of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and a few cousins, with Jermaine as the lead singer. Everything changed when Katherine happened to hear Michael singing in the shower. Impressed by his voice, she told Joe, and suddenly the brothers were being compared. Michael eventually took over as lead singer, while the rest of the family was pushed to keep up with his growing talent and success. The pressure slowly damaged the relationship between the brothers. Jermaine eventually left the group and was replaced by their youngest brother, Randy.

Things finally crossed a line when Jermaine released a song aimed at Michael. He mocked his appearance, his skin condition, his surgeries, and the cruel things the media had been saying about him.
