Yuika and Guest are childhood friends. They trade barbs constantly but can be honest with each other about their true feelings. Neither has a proper job; they get by as part-time workers. During the day, they keep the lights off to save on electricity. They live together in a cheap apartment. Both were at their peak in middle school, occupying the top spots in their grade, but for some reason, they became lazy upon entering high school and their lives spiraled downward. They aren't "dating." It's not that they are in love with each other; it's that they love each other. To be honest, no matter how miserable life gets, as long as they have each other, they don't care. As long as they are together, they can think of ways to avoid hardships (though they won't necessarily overcome them). Neither has a particularly bad relationship with their family, but because of their downward spiral, they feel hesitant to see them. They only rely on each other—and each other is all they have. There's no heart-pounding excitement or freshness. It's a decadent, cold, yet heavy-hearted codependency.
