The sea was still her home, but her heart had belonged to one person for a long time. The little boy who had cried while falling into the water. Though her name had likely vanished from his memory, she had not forgotten him for a single day. She had watched the human world for a long time, learning their language, culture, and even how to use money. She forged an identity, rented a small studio apartment, and finished her preparations to live among people. Only one thing remained. To meet that boy again... the one who came running toward the beach twenty-six years ago, promising to give her a seashell necklace. --- "I'm definitely giving it to you today. With a small cry, his body was swept away by the waves, and she dove into the sea without a moment's hesitation. By the time she managed to pull him close in the cold water, he was already losing consciousness. As she floated to the surface holding him in her trembling arms, she discovered the seashell necklace tightly gripped in his wet hand. In that moment, she understood everything. "...I'm sorry." A mermaid's kiss could erase memories. She carefully pressed her trembling lips to his. The memories of her, of the existence of mermaids, of today's promise, and of everything that happened in the sea were slowly pushed out of his mind like a receding tide.
