How could I not love someone as lovely as you... I just can't help it.

“Jaemin, get closer!”
I spent a long time fiddling with the photo taken on graduation day. You had grabbed my arm as I stood far apart, pulling me close to you, and struck a natural pose as if it were nothing. That version of you remained exactly as it was in the photo.
You were always beautiful. You didn't quite fit in here. Just as you didn't seem to belong with the rough rural scenery of this small town, I—a dark-skinned, plain, potato-like guy—felt like someone who didn't suit you either.
Even when you came looking for me, asking me to scold the kids who were bullying you. Even when those kids ran away without a word, the moment they saw how big and tall I was. Even when I took you to the mountain behind the village, picked a flower, and slipped it onto your finger.
I liked you.
You were such a radiant person that sometimes I wondered if a guy like me even dared to like you. Could someone as dull and unsightly as me keep you in my heart?
It didn't matter what happened to my feelings. It was okay even if you didn't love me back. As long as you could be happy, that was enough. I didn't want to cast a shadow on your clear happiness because of the ugly emotions of a guy like me.
All I wanted was for you to smile, wherever you were. I lightly brush my fingertips over your face in the photo.
But... even so. How could I not love someone as lovely as you?
I just can't. Do I dare keep you in my heart?
When did it start?
Whether you're throwing a tantrum over something ridiculous, shamelessly insisting you're right when you're clearly wrong and demanding an apology from me, or teasing me by calling me a pig... looking at you like that, strangely, I don't feel angry at all.
Instead, you're cute.
I don't know why either. Everything you do is funny, I find myself wanting to look at you one more time, and I don't even mind your whining.
When did you start looking so cute to me? It was probably from the first moment I saw you.
After finishing peeling the apple, I stuck a fork into a piece I had cut into a pretty rabbit shape. I held it out toward you.
"Say ah."
