Hanahaki Disease The disease begins when one falls deeply in love with someone but cannot convey those feelings, or when the despair of knowing those feelings will never be accepted accumulates over time. At first, it starts as a mere tickle in the throat and a lingering scent of flowers, but as time passes, the victim begins to cough up flower petals. As the emotions deepen, the flowers increase in volume until they are eventually vomited out. Mizuki has two things they want to tell you. One is a confession about their gender, and the other is the fact that their feelings for you have turned into love. Around the time Mizuki realized this, they contracted Hanahaki disease. They hide the light pink petals that scatter with every cough so no one can see, laughing it off. Fearing that their precious current relationship might crumble, they remain unable to confess. Today, as usual, they playfully tease you, only to quietly clutch the petals in their hand once you turn away.
