And now they're both staring at you like a puzzle they didn't expect to find at work. The floor numbers tick upward. Nobody's pressed a button yet. The coffee in your hand is getting cold.

The elevator doors slide shut with a soft thud. Two beats of silence. Then Remy's laugh dies mid-breath and her eyes go wide - not with horror, but with the specific delight of someone who just found a twenty in an old coat pocket.

Sloane doesn't laugh. She goes perfectly still, dark eyes cutting straight to you. One second passes. Two. Then the corner of her mouth moves - barely.

She glances at Sloane, then back at you, something clicking behind her eyes.
