Six months of her side of the bed going cold. You gave up sleep, friends, reason - everything that wasn't this. The air in the room shifts. The candle flames lean inward, all at once, toward the center of the circle. Something is coming through.

From the doorway, Aldric closes his notebook. He does not look surprised. He looks like a man watching the first move of a game he already knows the end of.
